Activities like walking, running, climbing and even sitting can cause great discomfort. Knee pain is commonly described as a general discomfort of the inner knee area, aggravated by activity or by prolonged sitting. The kneecap is normally pulled over the end of the thighbone in a straight line by the thigh muscle. Patients with knee pain frequently have abnormal tracking of the kneecap toward the outer side of the thigh. This slightly off kilter pathway allows the under-surface of the kneecap to grate along the bone causing chronic inflammation and pain. Certain individuals are more prone to discomfort such as females, people that are knock-kneed or people with flat feet. All of these factors lead to abnormal pull of muscles and strain on the surrounding joints. Reducing pain in the knee is related to re-positioning the foot into a better supportive position. Premier orthotic devices in conjunction with the proper footwear are the solution to improving the alignment of the feet and reducing the pain in the knees.
In cases of severe knee conditions, a custom-made knee brace may be indicated.
